The China Import and Export Fair — better known as the Canton Fair — is the largest trade fair on the planet. Held twice a year in Guangzhou, China, it spans three phases across five weeks and brings together over 25,000 exhibitors and hundreds of thousands of international buyers from every corner of the globe.

What Is the Canton Fair?

The Canton Fair has been running since 1957. It is held at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou — the largest exhibition complex in the world by gross floor area — and takes place in two sessions per year: spring (April/May) and autumn (October/November). Each session is divided into three phases, with different product categories featured in each phase.

How to Prepare for the Canton Fair

1. Register for Your Buyer Badge

Registration is free and done online at the official Canton Fair website (cantonfair.org.cn). You will need a valid passport and documentation confirming your business status. Register well in advance.

2. Know Your Product Categories and Target Halls

The venue spans Hall 1 through Hall 16 plus multiple annexe buildings. Each hall is approximately the size of a large airport terminal. Realistic maximum coverage per day is around 80–120 booths.

Guangzhou hotels near the Pazhou Complex fill up extremely fast — often six to twelve months in advance. Prices during the fair are three to five times higher than normal. The Guangzhou Metro Line 8 runs directly to the Pazhou station.
